Boy or Girl? Rachel has her second baby!

It's a bird, it's a plane, no.... it's a baby GIRL!!!! So I'm not one for suspense, but it's the whole reason you clicked on this post and I didn't want to disappoint you or anger you by making you wait! That's right folks, Rachel had her second baby and also her second girl.  It was a little like deja vu doing this session because the adorable baby Lily looks exactly like her big sister, Raelynn, did as a newborn. This forced me to be even more creative and do something really different from what I had previously done with baby number one.  I always try to do something different, and I always check what I did previously to avoid anything being repeated, unless it's actually suggested by my client. This one was a big success!

I had such a wonderful time photographing this sleepy little girl, and I can't wait to watch her grow. I have been so lucky to hold and create memories with both of Rachel's babes, and being there for all their milestones makes me feel so privileged and like one of the family. Let's just say that Rachel better continue to have more children because I can't get enough of her awesome family! In case you missed my recent post with Rachel's Maternity photos and a recap of what sessions we've done so far, please click here and see what you're missing!

I present to you, the beautiful Lily-

I don't want much- just the MOON! (Jeff's DIY project)

A couple of weeks ago I posted about our new Starry Night Backdrop, where I mentioned an upcoming prop project for Jeff to make for me. In case you missed that post you can check it out here. I am loving our new backdrop and have used it whenever I can! For a sample post of an actual photo session using the backdrop click here. I already had a little boat prop that worked out really well with the starry night sky, but I wanted more... much more... I wanted a MOON!

I really wasn't asking for much, just the moon.

I often surf the web and look for inspiration for my photography. I love seeing what other people have created and use that as an opportunity to be inspired and create my own images with my personal flair and style. So naturally, I have many ideas. I'm an idea woman. Ideas that I share with (force on) Jeff. I wanted this really great newborn/toddler prop that is in the shape of a crescent moon, and being the nice person that I am I found a couple of sites to "help" him build it...with a few size adjustments. Through much discussion about size and colour, and a little more about size, Jeff built me a moon! Only, it turned out to be a little too big, apparently my eye for measurement is a little...off.  On the bright side it is absolutely perfect for toddlers! Not a problem, simple size solution and easy-peasy to make another, smaller one. Honestly Jeff, stop crying.

So what's better than a moon prop? TWO moon props, in two different sizes.  I think this makes us a super cool Photography Studio, plus when I am not creating art with it, our daughter loves to use it as a seat to watch movies on.  It was so worth it, right Jeff?

Stay tuned for photographs of me using the new moon prop in our studio, and in the mean time enjoy taking a look at some progress pics sent to me, the idea woman, for approval-

Don't judge the man cave! This area is forbidden to me and thank goodness for that!

The Adorable Baby Hailey!

When I photograph newborns my sessions are not short. I usually like to keep them in the 2 hour to 2.5 hour range. Though this seems long I am not taking photographs that entire time. Newborns take patience. They need to stop and feed, they need a little cuddle and sometimes, just sometimes, they don't cooperate. I ask all my Mommies to prep their baby before coming to see me. What I mean by that is, I ask them to hold off on feeding their little ones for a couple of hours before our session as well as give them a nice warm bath. What this does is not only get them nice a cozy, it helps to remove any little bit of skin that may show up on the photograph, please note that peeling skin is completely normal and expected this simply minimizes it. I then have my Mommies come in to my studio about 15 minutes early, there we take our newborns out (at this point I look at them as part my baby ;)), get them nice and naked, wrap them up and feed them. This is pure heaven to newborns and most of them fall asleep right away!

Sometimes though, no matter how hard you try, a newborn just won't fall asleep for you, BUT, that doesn't mean you don't get amazing photographs from these sessions.

Here's proof-
